Adaptive Optics observations of LBQS 0108 + 0028 : K - banddetection of the host galaxy of a radio -
نویسندگان
چکیده
We report the rst unambiguous detection of the host galaxy of a normal radio-quiet QSO at high-redshift in K-band. The luminosity of the host comprises about 35% of the total K-band luminosity. Assuming the average colour of QSOs at z 2, the host would be about 5 to 6 mag brighter than an unevolved L galaxy placed at z 2, and 3 to 4 mag brighter than a passively evolved L galaxy at the same redshift. The luminosity of the host galaxy of the QSO would thus overlap with the highest found in radio-loud QSOs and radio-galaxies at the same redshift.

We report the first unambiguous detection of the host galaxy of a normal radio-quiet QSO at high-redshift in K-band. The luminosity of the host comprises about 35% of the total K-band luminosity. Assuming the average colour of QSOs at z ≈ 2, the host would be about 5 to 6 mag brighter than an unevolved L∗ galaxy placed at z ≈ 2, and 3 to 4 mag brighter than a passively evolved L∗ galaxy at the ...
متن کاملNear-infrared Adaptive Optics Imaging of High-redshift Quasars
The properties of high-redshift quasar host galaxies are studied in order to investigate the connection between galaxy evolution, nuclear activity, and the formation of supermassive black holes. We combine new near-IR observations of three high-redshift quasars (2 < z < 3), obtained at the ESOVery Large Telescope equipped with adaptive optics, with selected data from the literature. For the thr...
متن کاملWFPC2 Imaging of Quasar Environments: A Comparison of LBQS and HST Archive Quasars
We present Hubble Space Telescope (HST ) Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC2) data on the large-scale environments of 16 0.39 < z < 0.51 quasars from the Large Bright Quasar Survey (LBQS). The LBQS quasars are representative of the radio-quiet population, and this is the first look at their large-scale environments. We compare the LBQS environments with the environments of 27 0.15 < z < 0.55 q...
متن کاملOptics Observations of the Radio Galaxy 3 C 294 : a Merging System at Z = 1 . 786 ?
We present seeing-limited and adaptive optics (AO) images of the z = 1.786 radio galaxy 3C294 in the H and K ′ infrared bands obtained at Keck Observatory. The infrared emission of 3C294 is dominated by two distinct components separated by ∼ 1 (9 kpc). The eastern knot contains an unresolved core that contributes ∼ 4% of the K -band light; we identify this core with the active nucleus. The west...
